Why Blog?

I’ve been reading blogs for a while. I’ve even been reading blogs about blogs and blogging. Why blog, then, might be the wrong question — it’s when. So why now?

I have a few answers to that, all of which assume that this post is going to hit the interweb and be live, meaning that I’m assuming that now is actually now and not next year sometime.

  1. Practice. I’m pretty good at writing and editing, but writing to a schedule, to a deadline, to an invisible audience… all these things are new.
  2. Record-keeping. I’m good at my job, good at my relationship, and good at tinkering with software. Not so good at Getting Things Done or at remembering what I have done.
  3. Preparation. Even in the instant world of the interweb, things take time. I don’t yet know where this website is taking me, but when we get closer to understanding that, I’d like to have you and a few thousand of my other as-yet-unknown friends alongside.

I hope you’ll come with me. I’ll sure understand myself and where I’m going better after doing this, and maybe that’ll help you, too.
